VaeVictis OS is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed for people moving from Windows who want a secure desktop without having to configure numerous security tools themselves. It is based on Debian 13 (Trixie) and uses the GNOME desktop environment.
The distribution emphasises privacy and security, with full-disk encryption, firewall protection, application confinement and automatic security updates. It also includes a host-based intrusion detection system that monitors important system files and alerts users to potentially suspicious changes.
VaeVictis OS provides a familiar desktop experience with GNOME, Dash to Dock, Firefox ESR and LibreOffice. It includes utilities for managing WireGuard VPN connections, creating system snapshots and running virtual machines using QEMU/KVM.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")? |
| A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system. Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies. Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros. |
