PVFS – parallel file system

PVFS is a high performance open-source, parallel file system targeted at production parallel computation environments. It is designed specifically to scale to very large numbers of clients and servers. The architecture is very modular, allowing for easy inclusion of new hardware support and new algorithms. This makes PVFS an excellent research testbed as well.

PVFS focuses on high performance access to large data sets. It consists of a server process and a client library, both of which are written entirely of user-level code.

PVFS is designed to provide high performance for parallel applications, where concurrent, large IO and many file accesses are common.

• Stateless servers.
• User-level implementation.
• System-level interface.
• Builds out-of-the-box on a wide-variety of Linux distributions.
• Runs on a wide variety of systems, including IA32, IA64, Opteron, PowerPC, Alpha, and MIPS.
