MultiBit is a secure, lightweight, international Bitcoin wallet for Windows, MacOS and Linux.

MultiBit makes performing Bitcoin transactions quick and simple.

MultiBit depends on a special fork of Bitcoinj for its Bitcoin support. This is due to legacy wallet serialization issues and the MultiBit team are working towards a complete integration. The software also relies on Maven, ZXing, IzPack, Bitcoinj Enforcer Rules and XChange.

Features include:

• Quick and easy to install across all major desktop operating systems
• Secure by design – all private keys are kept encrypted on your local machine (or on a USB stick)
• Faster to synchronize – usually a minute or so
• Lighter – the stored data is much smaller (usually a few megabytes)
• Flexible – multiple wallets allow for a “current account”, “savings account”, “expenses” etc
• Manage multiple wallets
• Connects directly to the network, using a feature known as bloom filters
• Flexible and has several features only accessible to power users through the configuration file
• International – multiple languages (35+ at the last release)
