MESS – Multi Emulator Super System

The Multi Emulator Super System (MESS) emulates the inner components of computers, consoles, calculators, and even chess computers. It allows modern PCs to run software which was originally written for the emulated machines. It is a very powerful emulator.

MESS is based on the MAME core. MESS provides additional drivers and tools to emulate different systems. MAME is for arcade machines, and MESS is for home computers and video game consoles.

MESS supports a mammoth 632 unique systems with 1688 total system variations. There are simply too many to list here, but as a taster, this software emulates Apple II, Astrocade, Atari 800, Atari 5200, ColecoVision, Colour Genie, Mega Drive (Genesis), Kaypro CP/M, PDP/1, Sega Master System, Gamegear, TRS-80, and Vectrex. In respect of the Mega Drive, MESS supports:

• genesis [Sega Genesis (USA, NTSC)]
• megadriv [Sega MegaDrive (Europe, PAL)]
• megadrij [Sega MegaDrive (Japan, NTSC)]
• gensvp [Sega Genesis (USA, NTSC) with SVP] – this driver emulates a Genesis and the SVP add-on chip present in “Virtua Racing” carts
