Command Schedulers

KAlarm – flexible alarm and reminder scheduler

KAlarm is a personal alarm and scheduling application. Rather than merely ringing at a set time, it can remind you about something that matters or perform an action while you are working at your Linux desktop.

Its main window acts as a register of upcoming alarms, showing when each is due and what will happen. The application suits anything from reminders about appointments and breaks to unattended desktop tasks that should run at a particular time.

Alarms can be managed through its graphical interface, and the system tray gives access to common actions without keeping the main window open.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Display a typed message, the contents of a text or image file, or text produced by a command, with optional sound or speech.
  • Execute commands or send email messages automatically when an alarm is due, without showing a reminder window.
  • Repeat alarms at intervals measured in minutes or hours, on daily, weekly, monthly or yearly schedules, or whenever you log in.
  • Restrict recurring alarms to working times, exclude holidays and configure reminders before an event.
  • Defer an alarm until later, skip selected recurrences or cancel overdue alarms according to configurable rules.
  • Organise alarms in multiple local or remote iCalendar calendars, including calendars shared between computers.
  • Create reusable templates for commonly scheduled alerts, and keep an archive of expired alarms.
  • Schedule new alarms from the command line or through D-Bus calls made by other applications.
  • Customise message fonts and colours, or choose desktop notifications instead of alarm windows.
  • Wake a compatible Linux system from suspend for scheduled alarms, subject to hardware and kernel support.
