dynamic virtual terminal manager (dvtm) is a small open source utility that brings the concept of tiling window management, popularized by X11-window managers like dwm to the console.
As a console window manager it tries to make it easy to work with multiple console based programs. dvtm in combination with abduco serves as an useful alternative to tmux or GNU Sccreen.
dvtm tries to do one thing, dynamic window management on the console, and to do it well. dvtm’s source code is relatively small (~4000 lines of ANSI C), simple and therefore easy to develop. dvtm reuses some code of dwm.
dvtm can be used together with abduco. abduco provides session management i.e. it allows programs to be run independently from their controlling terminal. That is programs can be detached – run in the background – and then later reattached. Together with dvtm it provides an alternative to tmux or screen.
