Caelaris Linux is an Arch-based distribution designed to provide a ready-to-use system for desktop computing, gaming and development.
The flagship edition includes both KDE Plasma and GNOME, with Wayland used by default. Users can select either desktop from the SDDM login screen rather than having to install separate editions. The distribution also adds its own graphical installer and a collection of system tweaks intended to reduce the amount of manual configuration normally associated with Arch Linux.
Caelaris places particular emphasis on gaming. Steam, GameMode and MangoHud are included, together with system configuration changes aimed at improving responsiveness and supporting games running through Proton and Wine. ZRAM using zstd compression is also configured by default.
The graphical installer supports Btrfs with separate subvolumes and zstd compression, as well as Ext4. Pacman remains the underlying package manager, while the yay AUR helper is supplied for accessing packages from the Arch User Repository.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")? |
| A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system. Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies. Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros. |
