BigLinux Microphone – PipeWire microphone enhancement

BigLinux Microphone is a Linux application that improves microphone audio using noise reduction, equalisation and voice processing. It works with PipeWire and is intended for voice calls, recordings, streaming and other situations where background noise or poor microphone characteristics interfere with speech.

The application provides a GTK4/libadwaita configuration interface alongside integration with the KDE Plasma desktop. Users can adjust processing settings, inspect the incoming audio and monitor the resulting sound without having to configure individual effects in each application.

Its processing chain combines neural-network noise suppression with conventional audio effects. Different models and controls let users choose between more aggressive suppression and a more natural-sounding voice.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • GTCRN neural network processing suppresses unwanted noise in microphone audio.
  • DNS3 and VCTK models offer alternative noise reduction characteristics.
  • Optional DeepFilterNet3 backend provides full-band 48 kHz speech enhancement.
  • Adjustable noise suppression intensity helps balance noise removal against speech quality.
  • Ten-band equaliser provides detailed frequency adjustment.
  • Voice-oriented equaliser presets include Voice Boost, Podcast, Warm, Bright and De-esser.
  • Noise gate suppresses unwanted audio during pauses in speech.
  • Acoustic echo cancellation offers automatic, always-on and disabled operating modes.
  • Automatic echo cancellation behaviour responds to the active audio output device.
  • Dual mono processing can duplicate the cleaned voice across stereo channels.
  • Radio voice processing applies broadcast-style compression.
  • Pitch controls provide several voice-changing effects.
  • System sound filtering can process playback audio as well as microphone input.
  • Real-time spectrum analyser displays the characteristics of the audio signal.
  • Headphone monitoring allows users to hear the processed microphone signal with adjustable delay.
  • Live parameter adjustments can be applied without restarting the entire processing chain.
  • Smart PipeWire routing reduces the need to manage virtual audio devices manually.
  • Plasma 6 system tray integration provides convenient control of microphone and output filters.
  • Persistent settings are shared between the graphical interface and desktop controls.
