AOSC OS – general-purpose Linux distribution

AOSC OS is a general-purpose Linux distribution developed by the Anthon Open Source Community. It focuses on simplicity, localisation, software compatibility and long-term hardware support.

The distribution is independently maintained, with its own software repositories, package build infrastructure and system management tools. It follows a rolling release model, allowing users to receive updates without periodically reinstalling the operating system.

AOSC OS aims to provide a ready-to-use environment for everyday computing, creative work and system administration. The project also places emphasis on supporting different hardware generations, including older devices through its separate AOSC OS/Retro initiative.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
