Brackets – text editor

Brackets is an open source code editor for web designers and front-end developers.

This editor is built on top of web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML and CSS. It currently runs as a desktop application in a thin native shell.

Brackets has great features for editing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code regardless of what framework/platform/browser you use.

Features include:

  • Quick Edit UI in Brackets puts context-specific code and tools inline.
  • Live HTML development – as you code, HTML changes are instantly pushed to browser without having to save or reload the page.
  • Quick View makes it easy to visualize assets and colors in your code.
  • Syncs with your browser. With Live Preview, Brackets works directly with your browser to push code edits instantly and jump back and forth between your real source code and the browser view.
  • JS Debugging with Theseus.
  • Runs JSLint on JS files when you initially open them and whenever you save changes. There are also extensions for CSSLint, W3CValidation, JSHint, and JSON.
  • Supports extensions for adding extra functionality; currently available extensions add support for debugging, browser-specific CSS prefixes, JSDoc annotations, and other functionality.
  • Code hints.
