Review: Late Night Linux – for discerning Linux adults

Last Updated on September 6, 2020

Late Night Linux Blurb

Late Night Linux is a podcast that takes a look at what’s happening with Linux and the wider tech industry.

Every two weeks, Joe, Félim, Graham and Will discuss the latest news and releases, and the broader issues and trends in the world of free and open source software.

About the Show

This podcast publishes an episode every other Tuesday. There’s excellent coverage of the latest Linux news with beefy, passionate, and thoughtful opinions.

The show is rather heavy on advertisements. But there is a custom ad-free RSS feed available if you contribute $5 per month via Patreon. This isn’t a family-friendly show, as the hosts use profanity.

There’s a sister show, Late Night Linux Extra, which has recently been launched. Joe gets updates from distro maintainers and FOSS developers about their projects.

About the Hosts

Joe Ressington is a British podcaster and FOSS advocate. He’s a keen user of Linux with several years’ experience of desktop and mobile tinkering. He’s a former musician and is co-host for another active popular Linux podcast – Linux Action News. Joe was also co-host for a number of interesting podcasts that podfaded.

Félim Whiteley is a Linux administrator and developer with specializations in Asterisk & QueueMetrics development/integration and system monitoring. He’s from Dublin, Ireland. If you’re a fan of rugby, you’ll have something in common with Félim.

Will Cooke leads the team working on the Ubuntu desktop at Canonical. Will has been using and contributing to Ubuntu since 2005 and in 2015 he was recognized as an Ubuntu Member, which means he’s received recognition of significant and sustained contribution to Ubuntu or the Ubuntu community.

Graham Morrison writes technical documentation for Canonical, mostly about MAAS, Juju and conjure-up. A respected individual in the Linux community, he’s the co-founder of Linux Voice, and a former editor of Linux Format, our favourite Linux-specific paper magazine.

Verdict:Late Night Linux is one of the finest Linux podcasts. There's lots of insightful, blunt and earthy "straight talking" here. If you're fine with profanity (we are), you won't want to miss a single episode.

The presenters are captivating, knowing, and energetic - which isn't easy.
