xjobs – parallel execution of command-line jobs

xjobs is a command-line utility for executing multiple jobs concurrently. It provides functionality similar to xargs but is designed to take advantage of multiprocessor systems while offering greater flexibility in handling individual commands.

The application reads job descriptions line by line and starts new processes as running jobs complete. It can automatically determine the number of available processors, while allowing users to control the number of concurrent jobs.

Unlike conventional xargs usage, xjobs can execute different commands with varying numbers of arguments. It also supports input and output redirection and keeps the output from individual jobs separate, making execution results easier to follow.

xjobs is particularly useful for batch operations involving many independent, time-consuming commands.
