LTSP – Thin Client Solution

The Linux Terminal Server Project adds thin-client support to Linux servers. LTSP is a flexible, cost effective solution that enables schools, businesses, and organizations all over the world to easily install and deploy desktop workstations.

LTSP is an add-on package which allows users to connect lots of low-powered thin client terminals to a Linux server. Applications typically run on the server, and accept input and display their output on the thin client display. In other words, LTSP is a collection of software that turns a normal Linux installation into a terminal server.

LTSP is available as a set of packages that can be installed on any Linux system. It is also available as a part of complete distributions, such as K12Ltsp, SkoleLinux and EduLinux.

An LTSP thin client network is quite scalable; a moderately powerful machine can serve several thin clients, and if you need to add more thin clients, you can either expand the capabilities of the existing server, or, simply add more servers.
