24 Extra Hot Free Linux Games (Part 3 of 3)

Last Updated on December 10, 2018

For many individuals, computer gaming is nowadays an essential part of everyday life. This should not be seen as a negative. Whilst violent computer games have sometimes been identified as contributory factors in criminal activity, and undeniably they can be very addictive, it is important to recognise the real benefits that games offer besides simply providing a means of great entertainment.

For example, computer games can help to improve hand-eye co-ordination, enhance creativity, create team players, help children gain self confidence, and even provide a welcome distraction for children and adults who are suffering from poor health.

Fortunately, there is a huge number of Linux games that are available to download for no charge. This pool of games is ever increasing. However, finding the best games is time consuming given the vast number that are available to try. Games which are visually unappealing can still be frantic, fast, and fun, whereas games with gorgeous graphics may have little gameplay.

This article is the third and final instalment in a three part series, identifying Linux games that are worth giving a whirl. We have again tried to cover a wide range of game genres. Hopefully there will be something in this article which will be of interest to any type of gamer.

To be eligible for inclusion in this list each game needed to meet the following requirements

  • Free to play (no download charge, no monthly charge)
  • Does not require Wine to run. Wine is a compatibility layer for running Windows software.
  • Not in the early stages of development

The only exception we have made is for The Goblin and the Butterfly, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) which is currently in an alpha phase of development. It shows so much promise that it warranted making an exception to the above criteria.

Now, let’s scrutinize the 8 games at hand. For each game we have compiled its own portal page, providing screenshots of the game in action, a full description of the game, with an in-depth analysis of the features of the game, together with links to relevant resources and reviews.
