XSane is a featureful graphical frontend for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy).
XSane can be run as a stand-alone program or through the GIMP image manipulation program. In stand-alone mode, xsane can save an image to a file in a variety of image formats, serve as a frontend to a fax program, or send an image to a printer.
SANE stands for “Scanner Access Now Easy” and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.).
XSane is designed for acquiring images with scanners (there are other devices like cameras and videodevices supported by SANE, but XSane is not designed for that purpose).
Features include:
- Display image in a viewer.
- Save image to a file.
- Do a photocopy.
- Create a multipage document.
- Create a fax.
- Create an e-mail.

XSane workd wonderfully — until I had to reboot my wifi — after that my pixma printer/scanner got a different ip address
now all I get is errors referencing the old/incorrect ip address
the sane documentation doesn’t cover the xsane application
Are there config files for Debian – (stretch?)
Thank you
I just installed Kubuntu 20.04 and Xsane. Installed a Linux driver provided by Brother for my combo printer/scanner, obtained the IP address from the printer console and ran “brsaneconfig4” command. I would presume that command is from Brother only because of the br prefix. It worked fine, although I have not rebooted my wifi. But I guess I can repeat the process to get it back to work again. Thus, see if your printer provider has a similar driver and helps you configure the device.
Hello,
Which scanners are supported?
I have an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner.
Thank you for your answer,
Michael
Ask Epson support if there’s a Linux driver that supports your scanner.
XSane is just a frontend to SANE. Check SANE’s website for supported models.
