OpenEMR is an electronic health records (EHR) and medical practice management system. It combines clinical record keeping with the administrative and financial tools needed to operate medical practices, clinics and other healthcare facilities.
The software manages patient demographics, appointments, consultations, prescriptions, laboratory results and medical documents. Its integrated billing system supports insurance claims, electronic submission to clearinghouses and accounts receivable. An appointment calendar helps practices organise clinicians’ schedules across multiple facilities.
OpenEMR also includes a patient portal for viewing medical information, communicating with healthcare providers and managing appointments. Its interoperability features include FHIR APIs and support for exchanging clinical information with other healthcare systems. The application is web-based and offers extensive configuration options.
