eprofiler-tui is a terminal-based application for visualising software profiling data using interactive flamegraphs. It receives profiling information through an OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) endpoint and displays the results as they arrive.
The program is designed to help developers investigate the execution behaviour of running applications. By displaying sampled call stacks as a graphical hierarchy, it becomes easier to identify functions consuming significant execution time and understand relationships between different stack frames.
eprofiler-tui can process data produced by profiling tools such as the OpenTelemetry eBPF profiler. The profiling agent collects the measurements, while eprofiler-tui concentrates on displaying and exploring the resulting information.
The interface supports keyboard navigation, thread filtering and detailed inspection of individual stack frames. It also includes experimental tools for investigating profiling data in alternative ways.
This is free and open source software.
Key Features
- Receives profiling information through an OTLP gRPC endpoint.
- Displays live profiling data as an interactive icicle-style flamegraph.
- Visualises sampled call stacks to help identify performance bottlenecks.
- Uses colours to distinguish application code, language runtimes and system-level execution.
- Highlights frames according to their self-time contribution.
- Groups profiling stacks using thread information supplied with profiling samples.
- Provides keyboard-controlled navigation through stack frames and their relationships.
- Supports zooming into individual stack frames and returning to higher-level views.
- Freeze mode pauses live updates to allow detailed examination of profiling information.
- Offers thread searching and filtering to isolate relevant execution activity.
- Displays information about the selected frame, including its runtime and origin.
- Includes an experimental Flamescope view for investigating profiling activity.
- Experimental executable symbolisation supports ELF/DWARF debugging information.
- Maintains a persistent store of loaded debugging symbols between sessions.
- Provides a debugging interface for inspecting raw OTLP profiling requests, attributes, tables and sampled stacks.
- Supports configuration of the profiling receiver’s listening port.
