XChat is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) chat program. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. It can also be used to transfer files with other users.
It has a choice of a tabbed or tree interface, support for multiple servers, and a high level of configurability. Both command line and graphical versions are available, although use of the graphical version far outweighs use of the command line version.
Features include:
- CTCP – Client-To-Client Protocol is a special type of communication between Internet Relay Chat (IRC) clients.
- DCC file transfers.
- Plugin system for various languages (including C, C++, Perl, Python, Tcl and Ruby).
- Translations for a number of languages.
