Tilda – Gtk based drop down terminal

Tilda is a terminal emulator that does not behave like a normal window but instead it can be pulled up and down from the top of the screen with a special hotkey.

The main distinguishing feature of tilda is that it uses a configurable shortcut to show and hide the tilda window. This allows users to quickly switch between tilda and other windows only through keyboard shortcuts. When tilda is hidden it will move outside of the screen until a shortcut is pressed again to show the tilda window. The behaviour of tilda can be configured using the preferences dialog that is available via the context menu. A subset of the options can also be configured from the command line as documented below.

Tilda is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Highly configurable with a wizard that lets you change general options, title and commands, appearance, colors, scrolling, compatibility, and keybindings.
  • Search bar – supports searching forwards and backwards as well as options to search case sensitive and to use regular expressions. The search bar can be activated from the context menu or with a configurable hotkey.
  • Tabs.
  • Multi-monitor support.
  • Internationalization support – there are translations for Bulgarian, Catalan, China (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
