Aether – visual theming application

Aether is a visual theming application designed for Omarchy that extracts colours from wallpapers and builds coordinated themes for a Linux desktop.

It can also be used on other Linux systems, where it generates theme files for supported applications and desktop components so users can integrate them into their own setup.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Generates a full 16-colour ANSI palette from wallpapers using a median-cut colour extraction algorithm.
  • Offers multiple extraction modes, light and dark variants, and a wide range of fine-tuning controls for adjusting the resulting palette.
  • Includes wallpaper tools such as animated wallpaper support, wallhaven browsing and downloading, and a built-in image editor with filters and presets.
  • Provides a theme library with built-in presets, support for importing Base16 colour schemes, and blueprint files for saving and restoring complete themes.
  • Supports theming for more than 20 applications and components including Hyprland, Waybar, Kitty, Alacritty, Ghostty, Neovim, VS Code, Zed, and btop.
  • Lets users extend support with custom templates, per-application overrides, reload hooks, post-apply scripts, and a headless CLI for scripting and automation.
