TeXmacs – scientific word processor

TeXmacs is a free WYSIWYW (What You See Is What You Want) scientific word processor. It was inspired by TeX and Emacs, though it shares no code with those programs.

The software is designed to produce structured documents of high typographical quality with an easy to use interface. The typesetting quality of the produced documents is intended to be as high as possible, i.e. comparable to the quality of documents produced with TeX.

TeXmacs can be used to produce books / articles, presentations, and webpages. It can also be used as a graphical user interface to a number of computer algebra systems and similar mathematical programs including Axiom, Giac, gnuplot, Graphviz, Gtybalt, Macaulay2, Maxima, Mupad, Octave, Pari, Qcl, R, Reduce, Scilab and Yacas.

Documents can be saved in TeXmacs, XML or Scheme format and printed as Postscript or PDF files. Converters exist for TeX/LaTeX and HTML/Mathml.

TeXmacs comes with a typed lisp extension language.
