Here’s a chart showing the memory usage of the 15 Qt file managers. It’s not a scientific test, but a fairly rough and ready guide using ps_mem. It’s difficult to make reliable comparisons, but we’ve done our best to make the comparison as fair as possible.

Please be aware that some of the file managers use external applications and daemons for some of their functionality. For example, Baloo is a file indexing and file search framework for KDE Plasma. The chart above doesn’t take into account the memory footprint of Baloo or other similar software.

And it’s not surprising that Konqueror’s memory footprint is much higher than the others. After all, besides its file management functionality, it’s a complete web browser.
