PyRAF – Python-based IRAF command language

PyRAF is a command language for running IRAF tasks that is based on the Python scripting language. It gives users the ability to run IRAF tasks in an environment that has all the power and flexibility of Python. It allows importing Python modules, starting in any directory, GUI parameter editing and help.

PyRAF can be installed along with an existing IRAF installation; users can then choose to run either PyRAF or the IRAF CL. PyRAF may be run without an IRAF installation.

The design of PyRAF graphics system makes use of Python’s object-oriented features.

STScI will no longer support PyRAF as of Oct 1st, 2019.
