LocalTranslate – machine translation locally using Firefox translation models

LocalTranslate is a desktop application for Linux that performs machine translation locally using Firefox translation models.

It uses on-device neural models rather than a remote service, giving Linux users a native way to translate text without relying on the cloud.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Supports translation across a broad range of languages, including European, Asian, and Middle Eastern languages.
  • Uses local neural translation models so translated text can stay on your device.
  • Remembers the window size and last-used languages between sessions.
  • Includes keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+Enter to translate text and Ctrl+D to clear the input.
  • Lets you quickly swap the source and target languages from the interface.
  • Provides a Qt Quick based graphical interface for desktop use.
