BibLaTeX is a bibliography and citation management package for LaTeX. It provides extensive control over the formatting, sorting and presentation of bibliographic references in academic and technical documents.
The package offers a more flexible alternative to traditional BibTeX workflows. It normally uses Biber to process bibliographic data, while LaTeX macros control the formatting of citations and bibliographies. This separation allows users to customise citation styles without modifying the original bibliographic database.
BibLaTeX is particularly useful for substantial publications requiring complex citation rules, multilingual references or multiple bibliographies. Researchers can create separate reference lists for individual chapters, organise bibliographies by subject and define custom data fields to meet specialised publishing requirements.
This is free and open source software.
