vimpc – vi/vim inspired client for mpd

Last Updated on August 11, 2021

Summary

vifm is a competent mpd client for the terminal. It’s rock solid in operation. And because it’s a front-end to MPD, important features like gapless playback are automatically supported.

If you are unfamiliar with vi/vim we suggest you choose one of the other console-based mpd clients, as they are generally easier to learn. We kept having to revert to the help.txt frequently even after using the client for extended periods.

vifm is frugal with system resources. The popular ps_mem utility reports that memory usage is only 5.3MB of RAM. Factor in mpd’s process of course which consumes around 24MB of RAM.
