Linux Weekly Daily Wednesday Blurb

Bringing you the latest Linux gaming news, reviews, how to’s and whatever the hell elks we come up with.

We like to sit back, relax and take a bit of a break and talk about some of the fun things we’ve found going in the world of open source, FLOSS, big ones, you name it!

About the Show

Linux Weekly Daily Wednesday is a family-friendly podcast that covers a wide range of Linux related topics including general news, open source software, Raspberry Pi, distribution news, as well as mentioning useful guides. The hosts offer genuinely insightful views. There are no adverts cluttering up the podcast which you might find a blessing. They also feature listener feedback at the end of the show.

There are show notes available on their website and their YouTube feed, although they are sometimes poorly presented. Show notes are the unsung hero of many podcasters’ workflow.

Besides the audio podcast, you can also watch the show on YouTube. They have about 2,000 YouTube subscribers.

About the Hosts

Venn Stone describes himself as a producer, Linux enthusiast, gamer and educator. He specializes in deep or “baritone” voice work during the day and that comes across in the podcast with his deep, gravelly voice. He certainly adds gravitas to the shows. He’s never had Debian with X installed. The sacrilege (only joking).

Jill Bryant Ryniker: Besides being a co-host of this podcast, Jill is also a strong advocate of Linux to women using Windows and MacOS. She’s a co-organizer for LinuxChix LA, a women-oriented Linux community. It was formed to provide both technical and social support for female Linux users. Jill describes herself as a teacher, animator, and gamer. There’s definitely a shortage of female Linux podcasters out there, so it’s very welcome Jill joined the show as a co-host. She’s very knowledgeable and brings bags of Linux experience. Probably effervescent and bubbly best describes her presentational style, although you might her frequent giggling a mite grating after a while.

Pedro Mateus is billed as the official Hype-Man for LinuxGameCast. He’s the youngest of the hosts. A gaming Linux user who plays OpenMW, an open-source open-world RPG game engine that supports playing Morrowind.

Verdict:Linux Weekly Daily Wednesday is a well-balanced podcast. Shows don't feel scripted, have a good flow, and there's enough interesting information. We're a big fan of Venn. The podcast does somewhat meander at times. It's not the sort of podcast you'll be hooked to from listening to a single show, but persevere.
