Milis Linux – independent distribution

Milis Linux is a Linux-based operating system project that was started voluntarily in 2016 considering that the domestic operating system works in Turkey were inadequate and disrupted, and supported as Akdeniz University BAP Project in 2019-2020 and is still under development.

Milis Linux uses its own “Zero Linux” construction technique to capture authenticity. It has its own package management system (Milis Package System) and its own applications.

Milis Linux Project is based on open source and national software development principles and is ideally acquainted with increasing the added value of our country in IT.

Features include:

  • x86-64-bit system (Multilib – RISC-V is planned).
  • MPS – original package manager (Lua, Go).
  • Wayland supported desktop environment.
  • New compound packaging approach.
  • Dispensable package storage with IPFS support.
  • Ayguci – modular setting and information system.
  • Militer initiator system (Busybox init + Lua duty scripts).
  • Easy packing system (instruction files in the form of 3).
  • Hosting console applications in different languages (Rust, Go, Zig).
  • Clean and stable system.
  • Current and stable package storage.
  • Volunteer and productive contributor support.

What's a Linux distribution ("distro")?

A distro provides the user with a desktop environment, preloaded applications, and ways to update and maintain the system.

Each distro makes different choices, deciding which open source projects to install and provides custom written programs. They can have different philosophies.

Some distros are intended for desktop computers, some for servers without a graphical interface, and others for special uses. Because Linux is an open source operating system, combinations of software vary between Linux distros.
