The FreeSpace Port or FreeSpace Conversion is a user-made FreeSpace 2 port of the main Descent: FreeSpace campaign.
The package ports all the mission, ship, and weapon data from Descent: FreeSpace to FreeSpace 2 format, therefore allowing FreeSpace 2 players to use ships and weapons from Descent: FreeSpace.
This project also upgrades several FreeSpace 1 campaigns like Cardinal Spear and several ship models like the PVI Karnak.
Features include:
- Compatible with the retail version of FreeSpace 2.
- Uses many user-made graphical enhancements.
- Addition of background bitmaps.
- FreeSpace 2 multiplayer campaign Operation Templar, converted and rebalanced for single-player mode.
- FreeSpace 1 missions: Awakenings, Cardinal Spear, Destiny of Peace.
- Silent Threat campaign, in its entirety, has also been converted:
- 18 missions based on (but superior to) the original Silent Threat, eight of which are completely new.
- An immersive story that remains true to the original, yet is far more fleshed out.
- Supports many of the newest features in FSO yet is compatible with FS2 retail.
- Fully voice acted.
