OpenLDAP is a comprehensive implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
It supplies the slapd standalone LDAP directory server alongside libraries, client programs and administrative utilities. The software is widely used as infrastructure for authentication, identity management and other applications that need a standards-based directory service. Its modular design allows administrators to add specialised behaviour through overlays and select backends suited to different directory roles.
