Press the hotkey (by default that’s Ctrl+Space) brings up a menu. Start typing and get instant results. In the image below, a range of applications are listed just by typing ‘fi’.
There’s fuzzy search which helps you find the software you’re looking for. The software also remembers your previous choices with frequently used applications stored in ~/.cache/ulauncher_cache/app_stat_db.db.
Alt shortcuts are displayed against each entry, so they are all instantly accessible — no need to move down the displayed list.
One of the features I really like about Ulauncher is it’s fast directory browser. It’s accessed by typing ~ or /. You can navigate around the filesystem, launching applications, documents, and more. It’s quick and really easy to use. But it’s not a directory search.
Here’s the output when pressing /.
Whereas pressing ~ presents a list from your home directory. There’s also an alternative menu accessed by pressing Alt + Enter. This is useful if you want to open a directory in a file manager.
