In Operation

Here’s an image of gopeed in action. We’re downloading a few ISOs using HTTP. There’s also support for HTTPS, as well as BitTorrent and Magnet.

If you’re not familiar with a Magnet link, it’s a hyperlink used to download data and files via peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. It functions without needing a server and includes everything a torrent client needs to obtain a particular file.

Creating a new task is simple.

The advanced options offers a few extra options. For HTTP, you can set the user-agent, cookie, and referrer. For BitTorrent, there’s a tracker server url field.

What else does gopeed offer?

  • Seed, DHT, PEX, uTP, Webtorrent, Upnp.
  • Update tracker list every day automatically.
  • Define the maximum number of concurrent tasks.
  • HTTP API interface for external use, allowing for download management through the API.
  • Extensible – write extensions with JavaScript to enhance Gopeed’s download capabilities. There are a few extensions available.
  • Internationalization support.
  • Dark mode.

Summary

gopeed gets our firm recommendation. It’s a useful utility that will help you maximise your download speed.

While it doesn’t quite have the swish of Motrix’s interface, it offers some advantages. For example, gopeed is not Electron-based, and has a lower memory footprint. The wonderful ps_mem utility reports that gopeed’s memory footprint is around 141MB.

>>There are a number of ways to install Motrix in Ubuntu.

I guess you meant “gopeed” as this article is not about “Motrix”.
