dnsx – fast and multi-purpose DNS toolkit

dnsx is a fast and multi-purpose DNS toolkit designed for running various probes through the retryabledns library. It supports multiple DNS queries, user supplied resolvers, DNS wildcard filtering like shuffledns etc.

This is free and open source software.

Key Features

  • Supports A, AAAA, CNAME, PTR, NS, MX, TXT, SRV, SOA, CAA, and AXFR queries, along with a recon mode for collecting multiple record types.
  • Offers DNS resolution and brute-force capabilities for subdomains and hostnames.
  • Works with custom resolvers and multiple resolver formats including UDP, TCP, DNS over HTTPS, and DNS over TLS.
  • Includes automatic and manual wildcard filtering to reduce noisy or misleading results.
  • Provides response filtering, raw response display, JSONL output, and file output for automation pipelines.
  • Can show CDN and ASN information, perform DNS tracing, and apply concurrency and rate-limit controls.
