Soundboardd – small local soundboard daemon

Soundboardd is a small local soundboard daemon that preloads audio files from a configuration file and plays them on request via a UNIX domain socket.

It supports zero-copy playback from in-memory preloaded files and prevents duplicate concurrent playback of the same audio file (restarts the single playback instance instead).

This is free and open source software.

Components:

  • soundboardd — the daemon. Preloads files listed in the config file and listens on a UNIX socket for commands.
  • sbctl — a tiny client used to send commands to the daemon (play a path, play a preloaded index, or ask the daemon to shutdown).
  • soundboard.service — example systemd user service.
