Low-Spec Hardware? Try these Desktop Environments
I have selected my pick of desktop environments that are excellent candidates for older hardware. They typically run well on low-spec machines, even a system with a Pentium II 266MHz CPU, a processor that is now 16 years old. All of the desktops are released under freely distributable licenses. If your Linux box feels sluggish in general use, try one of the desktops featured below. It may just save you from discarding a perfectly good machine.

    cvsweb-scrape is a small tool that downloads a CVS module via the cvsweb interface. This is useful when anonymous CVS checkouts are unavailable for some reason, but the cvsweb interface is still up.
  • DBG
    DBG is a full-featured php debugger, an interactive tool that helps you debugging php scripts. It works on a production and/or development WEB server and allows you debug your scripts locally or remotely, from an IDE or console.

    Xdebug helps you debugging your script by providing a lot of valuable debug information. The debug information that Xdebug can provide includes the following: stack and function traces in error messages, memory allocation & protection for infinite recursions.
  • Xml Test Suite
    Xml Test Suite is an XML-based tool based on HttpUnit for testing complex Web applications using XML. It supports test driven development, database checking, XPath and JavaScript expressions, and can separate test data from test steps.
