9 First Steps with Ubuntu 15.04
One of the first things to do with a new release of Ubuntu is to check for updates. Typically, I won't upgrade to the latest release immediately, so there's always quite a few updates since the release. There's a handy Software Updater tool which makes the updating process painless.

    HTTPie is a command line HTTP client. Its goal is to make CLI interaction with web services as human-friendly as possible. It provides a simple http command that allows for sending arbitrary HTTP requests using a simple and natural syntax, and displays colorized responses. HTTPie can be used for testing, debugging, and generally interacting with HTTP servers.
  • hungrycat
    hungrycat is a tool that prints the contents of a file on the standard output while simultaneously freeing disk space occupied by the file.
  • iat
    iat (Iso9660 Analyzer Tool) is a versatile, open source tool for detecting the structure of many types of image file formats, such as BIN, MDF, PDI, CDI, NRG, and B5I, and converting them into ISO-9660. Read more
  • IPBT
    IPBT (It's Play-Back Time) is a curses-based playback utility for recordings of terminal sessions in either ttyrec or nh-recorder format. This utility analyses the entire ttyrec file before beginning the playback, and reorganises it into a form which permits frame-by-frame forward and backward replay. Read more

  • IR File Chooser
    The InfraRed File Chooser (or short irfc) is a remote controlled menu for selecting files and loading them by an assigned program. You can add as much filetypes and assoziated programs as you want.
  • iselect
    iselect is an interactive line selection tool for textual files, operating via a full-screen Curses-based terminal session. It can be used either as an user interface frontend controlled by a scripting backend as its wrapper or in batch mode as a pipeline filter (usually between grep and the final executing command).

  • launchtool
    runs a user-supplied command and can supervise its execution in many ways, such as controlling its environment, blocking signals, logging its output, changing user and group permissions, limiting resource usage, restarting it if it fails, running it continuously and turn it into a daemon
  • lddot
    lddot is a wrapper over ldd, which produces output in Graphviz format.
  • LeahGet
    a simple file retrieval utility, similar to WGet
  • lookat
    lookat is a program to view text files and manual pages.
  • lsp
    lsp is like ls command but more human-friendly
    LTOOLS is a command line tool suite for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x and Windows NT for accessing files on Linux harddisks (Linux's native Extended 2 filesystem).
