Bitcoin-Qt is an open source Graphical User Interface around the core Bitcoin protocol that is run by the majority of nodes on the network. “bitcoind” is the same software but without the user interface — it is simply a process that runs in the background and only allows access to it through its API. It is a full node, the client needs to download the entire blockchain to operate.
Bitcoin is a decentralized P2P electronic cash system without a central server or trusted parties.
Users hold the crypto keys to their own money and transact directly with each other, with the help of the network to check for double-spending.
