I am trying out compiz which is an openGL compositing window manager for linux.
It was forked to create a new compositing window manager called beryl which has recently reunited with compiz. Now after trying compiz I would say Its a must have for anyonbe looking for eyecandy on their desktop.

I am using the git version which is supposed to unstable but hafve face no problem whatsoever except for onr plugin which can be deactivatewd.

It works much faster than beryl and gives me very smooth and all the effects on my Intel 845GV integrated graphics.

Anybody going for vista just for the eyecandy should definitely give this a try as in my opinion this is much better than the vista aerointerface at much lower interface at much lower system requirements

Compiz is one of the first compositing window managers for the X Window System that uses 3D graphics hardware to create fast compositing desktop effects for window management. The effects, such as a minimization effect and a cube workspace are implemented as loadable plugins. Because it conforms to the Inter-Client Communication Conventions Manual standard, Compiz can substitute for the default Metacity in GNOME or KWin in KDE.
Compiz plugins include the cube effect (example to the right), Alt-Tab application-switching with live previews or icons, and a feature similar to Exposť. The Composite extension to X is used, as is the OpenGL extension GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap[2]. The first version of Compiz was released as free software by Novell (SUSE) in January 2006 in the wake of the also new Xgl.
