McObject is shipping a new release of its flagship Linux-ready in-memory database for real-time applications, including high-availability applications. ExtremeDB 4.0 beta enhances multi-user performance, adds a second native application programming interface (API), and adds support for the KD-Tree database index, used for pattern matching, says the company.

Novell's Linux business grew by 33 per cent over the fourth quarter last year, according to the company's latest financial figures. Identity and access management revenues were up 11 per cent compared to the same period last year, and systems and resource management revenues climbed 15 per cent.

Binary-only Linux drivers will never work for the majority of Linux users, Harald Welte told hardware developers at a Taipei conference. The Linux kernel's lack of an ABI and intentional lack of stable APIs make binary drivers a losing battle purely for technical reasons, he suggests.
