The developers of Atomix, a Serbian Linux distribution based on Fedora Core and enhanced with multimedia applications, introduced Version 4 of their live DVD on Dec. 9. This is a major update that uses a 2.6.18.2 Linux kernel and KDE 3.5.5 as its default desktop environment, the team said.

Until now, there hasn't been a really good Linux distribution for digital content creation. Debian-based 64 Studio, which has just achieved its 1.0 release, is described by some as "the best distribution ever created for multimedia workstations, such as digital audio recording and video editing."

A new preliminary version of the Slackware-based STUX GNU/Linux live CD, version 0.9.2, was released Monday, featuring a 2.6.17 kernel and the KDE desktop environment. STUX is touted as a live CD distro that can automatically load and save main configuration and personal files on a writable partition.
