SimplyMEPIS 6.5 RC3 has been uploaded to the MEPIS subscribers pool and propagated to the public mirrors. This release includes Beryl 0.2.0 Final, Amarok 1.4.4.4, translations for the MEPIS Installer,and an improvement for bcm43xx support.

The beta release of Ubuntu Feisty, the latest release of the popular Linux operating system, has been delayed for a day because of kernel issues.

RC1 of SimplyMEPIS 32 and 64 is available for testing. This release adds an improved MEPIS Network Assistant, the latest Alsa sound drivers, and numerous minor fixes.

Red Hat has issued an update for seamonkey. This fixes some vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions, conduct cross-site scripting and spoofing attacks, gain knowledge of sensitive information, and potentially compromise a user's system.

Last September, some of the Debian Linux distribution's leadership wanted to make sure that Etch, the next version of Debian, arrived on its December 4th due date. So, the "Dunc-Tank" group decided to experiment with financially supporting some key developers to get Debian out the door on time.

The Debian project is pleased to announce the fifth update of its stable distribution Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (codename `sarge'). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustment to serious problems. Those who frequently update from security.debian.org won't have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update.

Nominations for the unpaid position of Debian Project Leader (DPL) opened last week. The successful candidate will take over from current incumbent Anthony Towns in April.

The Ubuntu Technical Board has made two technical decisions of which we
would like to inform the Ubuntu community. Both of these decisions concern
the upcoming 7.04 release of Ubuntu, scheduled for mid-April.

Responding to a report that its right to sell Linux is under scrutiny by a group that controls key parts of the open source operating system, a spokesman for Novell on Monday said the company does not expect to make any changes to its product line as a result of the tiff. "We're telling customers that no one can stop us from selling SUSE Linux," the spokesman said.
