Shocking news surfaces today as it appears there MAY be a security hole in Windows...

Microsoft said Sunday it's looking into reports of a security screw-up in Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), a component of its most popular server software, including Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows Server 2003.

Cyrus IMAP vulnerable to attack Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Several major Linux vendors have warned they are vulnerable to four flaws in a widely used IMAP e-mail server from Carnegie Mellon University's Cyrus Electronic Mail Project. The flaws could allow an attacker to take over a server.

This week, advisories were released for bugzilla, samba, bnc, sudo, Cyrus, yardradius, AbiWord, unarj, pdftohtml, ProZilla, phpBB, TWiki, XFree86, libxpm4, a2ps, zip, kdebase, and kdelibs. The distributors include Conectiva, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Mandrake, Openwall, and Trustix.

Java flaw could lead to Windows, Linux attacks Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The vulnerability, found by Finnish security researcher Jouko Pynnonen in June, was patched last month by Sun, but its details were not made public until Tuesday. Security information provider Secunia posted information about the flaw in an advisory that rated it a "highly critical" threat.

Although, this is a Windows specific issue, it merited attention due to the sheer volume of people affected, including some Linux related sites being a distributing point(not ours :) ).

If you know anyone using IE that has NOT installed service pack 2 for Windows XP, you better help them clean up their machine. It is clear that IE can no longer be trusted for anything. Our recommendation, install Firefox 1.0 IMMEDIATELY. And visit Linuxlinks.com for your news needs, we don't use ad servers.
