Mainz, Germany and Bonaduz, Switzerland (July 30, 2009)ELinOS, SYSGO's premier industrial Linux platform, was selected by the Hamilton Company and Global Cell Solutions, Inc. for the BioLevitator 3-D Cell Culture System.
The BioLevitator is the first benchtop 3D cell culture system on the market, delivering significant productivity gains for drug discovery and development, therapeutics and regenerative medicine. The BioLevitator combines the engineering and automation expertise of Hamilton together with Global Cell Solutions' unique approach to cell culture for a scalable and automated system that reduces costs while improving the consistency and relevance of cultured cells.
The BioLevitator system utilizes ELinOS and the included 2.6.22 Linux kernel version as the running operating system on the MEN EM1A board with PowerPC MPC5200. Components integration and Eclipse-based development environment of ELinOS were used to make the BioLevitator system not only reliable but also user-friendly. The application is written in C++ and uses QT libraries for the graphical components.
"From the beginning, ELinOS was designed to provide the best of Linux to our customers", said Jacques Brygier, VP Marketing at SYSGO. "We are therefore very pleased but not surprised that ELinOS was selected to be an integral part this innovative product, the new BioLevitator system".
ELinOS is a Linux-based development environment for creating sophisticated intelligent devices. Unlike traditional Linux implementations and distributions, SYSGO's ELinOS is purpose-built for demanding industrial applications. SYSGO's 15+ years of field expertise ensures not only an embedded Linux offering ideally suited for real-world complex applications, but also the ability to back it up with unmatched world-class support.
"We pay a lot of attention to the different hardware and software components used in our products", declares Dr. Clara Cavelier, Senior Product Manager Cell Biology at Hamilton. "We are convinced that SYSGO offers not only the right technology but also the right team to support our business model. SYSGO and ELinOS offer the ideal combination of expertise and quality we demand from our suppliers."
Available on Linux or Windows hosts, ELinOS is easy to install and use by novices. Many BSPs (Board Support Packages) corresponding to the most successful boards on the market are included, as well as BSPs for virtualization engines such as QEMU and VMware, or for the other SYSGO flagship product PikeOS. With more than 500 listed BSPs, ELinOS has the largest professionally validated set in the industry. In addition to the widely used x86 version, ELinOS also supports PowerPC-, ARM-, MIPS-, and SH-platforms. ELinOS includes CODEO, the Eclipse based development environment that provides guided configuration, remote debugging, target monitoring, remote application deployment, and timing analyses in addition to standard application development features such as compilers and assemblers. Since the release of the 5.0 version, ELinOS also includes support for Adobe's Flash Lite®, specifically adapted by SYSGO for high performance embedded systems.
SYSGO excels in providing operating system technology, middleware, and software services for the real-time and embedded device market. A differentiating capability of SYSGO is the secure PikeOS paravirtualization operating system which is built upon a small, fast, and safe microkernel and supports the cohabitation of independent operating system personalities on a single platform, including ELinOS, SYSGO's embedded Linux development environment. SYSGO supports international customers with services for embedded Linux, real-time capabilities and certification for safety-critical applications. Target markets include Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Automation, Automotive, Transportation and Network Infrastructure. SYSGO customers include Airbus, Honeywell, Thales, Daimler, Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Rockwell-Collins, Siemens and Rohde & Schwarz. Today, the company has six facilities in Europe, including Germany, France and The Czech Republic and offers a global distribution and support network, extending to North America and the Pacific Rim.
