The current economic downturn is set to drive Linux adoption, analysts are predicting.
In a survey by analyst house IDC, of 330 organisations with 100 or more employees, IDC found that 53 per cent were planning to increase adoption of Linux on servers, while 48 per cent were planning to increase Linux on clients, as a direct result of the economic climate.
Sixty-two per cent of respondents - who comprised CIOs, IT vice presidents, IT directors, managers and consultants - said their budget had been cut or that "they are moving more cautiously and investing only where needed", IDC analysts Al Gillen and Brett Waldman wrote in a whitepaper.
