Oslo, Norway, 9. December 2008 – Redpill Linpro, a leading Nordic vendor of Open Source products and services, have released the source code for its industry-leading thin client management tool – Multiframe. The availability of the source code for Multiframe version 5 encourages the Open Source community to build new features and applications to enhance the capabilities of the software package.

The Norwegian Innlandet Hospital has successfully been using Multiframe since 2004, and currently has more than a 1,000 Multiframe-administrated and Linux-based thin clients spread across different locations in Norway. The Hospital’s Mulitframe-managed thin clients are connected to a Citrix server farm based at the city of Gjøvik, and deploying new clients takes less than five minutes.

Bjørn Ruud, supervisor for thin client management at The Norwegian Innlandet Hospital, said: “We’re thrilled that Multiframe is now available under a GPL license, creating exciting prospects for added functionality and even better stability in managing a rapidly expanding network of thin clients. Multiframe has already helped us achieve significant savings in operations costs, and now the open license makes the deal even sweeter.”

The Hospital is also grateful for Multiframe's web-based remote administration, monitoring and support of thin clients, reducing the expenditure on travel and dedicated support for each location. “We’ve even retained our older computers and, in fact, extended their lifetime by having Multiframe convert them to thin clients,” Bjørn added.

Christopher Grenness, Product Adoption Manager at Redpill Linpro, said: “Open access to the source code will hopefully lead to a drastically increased number of new users, which again might give us constructive feedback that we can use in the continued development of the software.”

The Multiframe version 5 client operating system includes a Firefox web-browser, which gives directly access to the Internet and internal web-resources, and MP3-support. It can boot in diskless mode, or from a local harddrive. It has support for a number of different terminal server protocols, among these are Citrix' ICA and Microsoft's RDP, and multiple terminal server connections can run simultaneously. In version 5, extra efforts has been put in making the client compatible with modern display adapters and monitors, offering great support for widescreen monitors and dual screen configurations.

Redpill Linpro will continue to offer consultancy services, support and training. Further details on the new version and Multiframe in general are available here http://www.multiframe.net/
