CyberLink Corp. announced that its DVD and media players are now available for Linux, targeting OEM bundles on netbooks and nettops. CyberLink PowerDVD Linux supports DVD playback with navigation, subtitles, and rewind/fast forward, while CyberLink PowerCinema Linux is an all-around media player, says CyberLink.
PowerDVD Linux is a more "compact" version of the Windows-based PowerDVD, but it incorporates the same "TruTheater" features such as automatic video lighting enhancements, and support for Surround and Dolby audio technology, says CyberLink. In addition to offering movie playback controls for formats including DVD, AVCHD, and Blu-ray, the software provides a Movie Remix module that enables re-ordering movie scenes, adding subtitles, inserting animated PiPs (picture in pictures), and recording voice-overs (see image below). Other PowerDVD features include a database for collecting movie information, and integrated access to its MoovieLive.com site, which provides user-generated ratings and reviews.
