IBM releases Cognos 8 Business Intelligence for Linux software on System z

Cognos, an IBM company, announced the first time availability of IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) for Linux software on System z, IBM's brand name for its mainframe computers.

"We saw an increasing demand for solutions on the mainframe," said Jennifer Hanniman, senior product marketing manager for the Cognos 8 platform.

She added that customers are looking for solutions on the mainframe for a couple of reasons. The first is they want to reduce the cost and complexity in their infrastructure and look at mainframes as a potential platform to standardize for things like green initiatives within the IT organization.
