Optimized MontaVista Linux release enables rapid development of ground-breaking devices with low-power Intel® processor.

MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, today announced the immediate availability of a MontaVista embedded Linux software platform to support the new Intel® Atom™ processor Z500 series. The new MontaVista Linux release delivers commercial-grade quality, integration, and expert support. To enable device developers to rapidly design connected devices with the Intel® Atom™ processor, the optimized MontaVista Linux release provides advanced capabilities such as programmable power management for long battery life, 802.11n connectivity for Wi-Fi wireless communication, Bluetooth connectivity, and fast boot for speedy device start-up.

“The Intel® Atom™ processor Z500 series are very power-efficient Intel processors, yet they deliver the performance to drive a new class of products,” said Jim Ready, CTO and founder of MontaVista Software. “They are ideal for small devices where connectivity and low power consumption are key design factors, along with instruction set compatibility with Intel® architecture processors. We are providing Linux commercialization for the Intel Atom processor because we believe these new processors will enable the thousands of developers who use MontaVista Linux to create many types of connected devices for mobile, industrial, automotive, digital imaging, and other purposes.”“Devices have been successfully deployed using MontaVista Linux on Intel processors for many years,” said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. “MontaVista’s support of the new low-power Intel Atom processor Z500 series will enable many innovative new devices for the embedded market.”

MontaVista Linux for the Intel® Atom processor Z510 is available immediately for selected MontaVista customers.
