Ease of installation: ''Installation'' refers to both the installation of the operating system and the installation of applications. When I first started using Linux, some distributions, such as Slackware and Debian, were a little lacking in the user support given during the installation process. Redhat and Mandrake used Anaconda to hand-hold the user through a pretty friendly installation process. Today, the Live CD installation process makes it possible to boot from a CD-ROM, test the hardware, and then install the entire system in less than 20 minutes. I prefer this method. Most of these distributions allow the user to run a utility that works like Partition Magic called Gparted (gparted.sourceforge.net/features.php). Read more   [ Views: 1278 ]
