Ubuntu is preparing to launch a special version of its operating system for use in embedded and mobile devices.

The forthcoming Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Edition, due in October, will be tailored for Intel's 2008 Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform. The first devices are expected to ship in 2008.
